Echeveria unguiculata - Crested Form

Echeveria unguiculata - Crested Form is a rare growth variation of the Mexican species Echeveria unguiculata, which is naturally found on limestone slopes and rocky outcrops. Instead of forming a single symmetrical rosette, the crested form develops a fan-shaped growth along a flattened stem, producing numerous tightly packed leaves. The foliage is narrow and bluish-green, tapering to a pointed tip, and the unusual crested habit creates a sculptural effect that changes as the plant matures. Flowering, when it occurs, still follows the traits of the species, with reddish to orange blooms appearing in spring to early summer.

Care Tips:

  • Light - Provide bright, indirect light to full sun to maintain strong leaf colour and compact growth.
  • Water - Water thoroughly and allow the soil to dry completely before watering again; reduce watering during cooler months.
  • Humidity - Suited to low humidity environments.
  • Media - Plant in a coarse, free-draining cactus and succulent mix, ideally with added lime chips to mimic its native limestone habitat.
  • Temperature - Best grown in temperatures of 15-27 °C; protect from frost.
  • Fertiliser - Apply a diluted, balanced fertiliser during active growth.
  • Repotting - Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant outgrows its container, taking care not to damage the delicate crested stem.
